World ROP Congress in Florence 2025
(link to conference website)
On December 4th and 5th, the EU-ROP team had the pleasure of participating in the World ROP Congress 2025 in Florence.
Our delegation attended numerous scientific sessions and engaged in intensive exchange with international colleagues dedicated to improving the care of infants with retinopathy of prematurity.
A particular highlight was the in-person meeting of several EU-ROP members during our own EU-ROP study meeting. Current developments within the registry, ongoing analyses, and upcoming milestones were discussed.
EU-ROP was also strongly represented scientifically this year: presentations included real-world data on the first 651 treated patients from the EU-ROP registry, a multicenter comparison of anti-VEGF treatment patterns across Europe, and two country comparisons (Germany–Türkiye and Germany–Poland).
The congress in Florence marked another important milestone for EU-ROP. We thank all participating centers and partners for their continued commitment and look forward to further developing the registry together.
September 25-28 2025 // Berlin, Germany
Annual meeting of the German Society of Ophthalmology (DOG) 2025

This year’s DOG took place at the end of September in Berlin – and the EU-ROP project was once again represented on site!
Particularly noteworthy was the well-attended ROP course: under the direction of Andreas Stahl, Tim U. Krohne, Johanna M. Pfeil, and Wolf A. Lagrèze, engaging topics such as the assessment of plus disease in ROP screening, disinfection in ROP treatment, and follow-up care for preterm infants were discussed. The course also featured a presentation on the latest real-world data from the EU-ROP registry.
Following the course, an informal EU-ROP meeting took place which provided a great opportunity for new and experienced centers to meet in person and exchange insights on current developments, analyses, as well as practical tips and tricks for data entry.
In another session during the congress, two of our MD students presented further data from the EU-ROP registry: A country comparison of Germany and Türkiye and an overview on photo documentation in ROP management.

Laura Schnorr and Sophie Schnorr also presented their talks on Friday on photodocumentation of ROP in Europe and the comparison of children with AP-ROP and A-ROP.
On Saturday, October 12th, there was a workshop on ROP in which Prof. Andreas Stahl presented a talk with the title “Correctly categorise ROP severity levels: Comparison of different ROP scoring systems”. In the same workshop Dr. Johanna Pfeil presented the topic “Understanding ROP data: joint analyses of the Retina.net ROP, EU-ROP and FRB-ROP registers”.
Additionally, Prof. Andreas Stahl presented the EU-ROP registry in the workshop “Ophthalmological registers - what can we learn from them?” in on Saturday.
